Terms of Service
Last updated: April 29, 2026
These Terms of Service govern your use of the Kandila App — a hyper-local Filipino Catholic prayer app, developed by Vincent Abellera / VC Digital Media. By downloading, signing in, or using Kandila in any way, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Use of the App
Kandila is a free, personal prayer companion for Filipino Catholics. You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial spiritual practice. The app is supported by quiet advertising — see the Advertising section of our Privacy Policy.
You agree not to:
- · Use Kandila for any commercial purpose, including advertising or selling goods to other users
- · Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code
- · Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the app
- · Create more than one account, or impersonate another person
- · Attempt to circumvent the community moderation system, daily caps, or content guidelines
- · Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable Philippine or international law
Your Account
Kandila accounts are created via Google sign-in. You are responsible for keeping your Google account secure. We do not store your Google password.
You may delete your account at any time, which removes your prayers, activity history, and all associated data within 30 days. To delete your account, email support_kandila@vcdigitalmedia.com.
Each user is allowed one Kandila account. Multiple accounts, false identities, or impersonation are not permitted.
Acceptable Conduct on the Prayer Wall
Kandila is a sacred space. The Prayer Wall is for sincere prayer requests and intentions. When posting prayers, you agree to:
- · Pray sincerely — share real intentions, not jokes or fictional content
- · Treat your barangay neighbors with respect and Christian charity
- · Not post hate speech, discrimination, harassment, or attacks based on religion, ethnicity, gender, or any other protected characteristic
- · Not post spam, sales pitches, links to external commerce, or contact information (phone numbers, emails)
- · Not post sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate content
- · Not name-and-shame other people; pray for them, not against them
- · Not use the app to organize harassment or coordinated negative campaigns against others
Content Moderation
Kandila uses a community-driven moderation system. When other users in your barangay report a prayer, the report is recorded privately. When enough reports cross a threshold proportional to your barangay's size, the prayer is automatically hidden from the wall.
Hidden prayers can be automatically restored after 72 hours if no further reports are received — this protects against unfair, mob-style hiding.
For repeat violations, accounts may be flagged for administrator review. After three violations, an account may be suspended or banned. We will email the contact address on file before any permanent action, where possible.
We reserve the right to remove any content or suspend any account that violates these Terms, even if the community has not reported it — though we use this discretion sparingly and prefer the community's judgment.
Your Prayers, Your Words
You retain full ownership of any prayer you post on Kandila. We do not claim ownership over your words.
By posting a prayer, you grant Kandila a limited, non-exclusive licence to display that prayer on the Prayer Wall of your selected barangay, for the duration the prayer is active (usually 24 hours). This licence ends automatically when the prayer expires or is deleted.
We do not use your prayer text to train AI models, build advertising profiles, or any other secondary purpose. Your prayers are not training data.
Advertising
Kandila is free for every user. To pay for the servers and ongoing development, the app shows quiet advertising in low-friction places. Ad content is capped at G (General Audiences); gambling, dating, alcohol, and politics are blocked. We never display ads inside the Gospel reflection or on top of a specific prayer.
By using Kandila, you understand that the app is ad-supported and you agree to receive these ads. You can read the full advertising practices in our Privacy Policy.
A Note on Faith
Kandila is a digital tool to support your prayer life. It is not a substitute for the sacraments, regular Mass attendance, Confession, or in-person community with your parish.
The Daily Gospel, prayer reflections, and Rosary content provided in the app are for personal devotional use. They are not authoritative teachings of the Catholic Church. Any spiritual concern that goes beyond personal prayer should be brought to a parish priest or qualified spiritual director.
Kandila is independently developed and is not officially affiliated with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), any specific diocese, parish, or religious order.
Service Disclaimer
Kandila is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep the app working reliably, but we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.
To the fullest extent permitted by Philippine law, VC Digital Media is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) Kandila. The app is a free spiritual tool, not a critical service.
Termination
You may stop using Kandila at any time and delete your account through the in-app Settings or by emailing support_kandila@vcdigitalmedia.com.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, attempt to circumvent moderation, or use the app in a way that endangers the safety or wellbeing of other users. Where possible, we will provide notice before any permanent action.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of Kandila will be resolved in the courts of the Philippines.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users through an in-app banner before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Kandila after the effective date of the changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
